CCU commencement honors fall 2017 graduating class
A total of 718 students were eligible to walk in Coastal Carolina University's fall commencement, held in two ceremonies in the HTC Center on campus on Dec. 15. In his talk to Coastal Carolina University's fall 2017 graduation candidates, commencement speaker Luke Rankin shared advice given to him by his father. "As the years have gone by," said Rankin, who has served Horry County in the South Carolina State Senate since 1992, "I have learned that my father's three-word mantra is a profound philosophy of life. It's expressed in three simple words: observe, record and correlate. "Observe. Pay attention to the world.... Carefully observe the people you interact with every day, from the highest to the most humble, paying particular attention to the latter. Record. Remember what your observations have taught you. Note how can the mistakes you've made be avoided. Correlate. Weave those experiences, lessons and observations into your philosophy and the values you live by. Use that philosophy to forge your path through life to inform the way you treat others." Rankin was awarded the honorary degree Doctor of Public Service at the ceremony. Area physicians Charles G. Sasser and Covia L. Stanley were both awarded the honorary degree Doctor of Science. Two graduating students received the President's Award for Academic Achievement, which recognizes students with the highest cumulative grade point averages. The recipients of the award all had perfect 4.0 grade point averages, graduating summa cum laude: Hattie Adeline Jordan, an economics major of Conway, S.C. and Madeline Anne Lee, a marine science major of Fredericksburg, Va.

Wofford students study abroad during Interim 2017
Wofford's Interim is a time for exploration and experiential learning away from the rigors of traditional academic courses for students and faculty alike. Students may choose from a variety of on-campus courses, professional internships and research projects, study abroad opportunities or their own independent study project, approved and guided by a faculty advisor. More than 200 students chose to study abroad during Interim 2017.

On Dec. 2, minutes before midnight, 108 student-volunteers from University of the Cumberlands gathered at the front of the Williamsburg Walmart store to shop for Christmas presents for local children.

The University of the Cumberlands men's bowling team competed at the Brunswick Southern classic over this past weekend. The men's team would earn a 22 place finish for the tournament.

UC Bowling Finishes 4th at Green River Classic
The UC Men's Bowling team returned to the lanes this past weekend in Campbellsville to take part in the 2016 Green River Classic. With 11 teams competing in the classic, the Patriots looked to swing some momentum their way after a solid showing at the LMU Railsplitter Baker Kick Off. UC had a solid day one, finishing the day in 5th place but only 20 mins outside of 4th. The Pats would have a nice showing on the 2nd day in which they would move up the rankings, finishing the tournament 4th.

Women’s Bowling Wins 1st Event in School History at Railsplitter Baker Kickoff; Men Finish 6th
The UC Bowling teams opened their 2016-17 seasons this past weekend as they traveled to Harrogate, Tennessee for the Railsplitter Baker Kickoff hosted by Lincoln Memorial University. At this competition, the teams would compete in 36 Baker games in hopes to qualify for the winner-take-all tournament. The men's team would finish 6th of 10 competing teams while the women's team would win the tournament, marking the first tournament championship won by a UC bowling team in school history.

Approximately 1,100 students were graduation candidates for Coastal Carolina University's commencement ceremonies on May 6 and 7, 2016, at the HTC Center on campus. Grand Strand businessman and civic leader Dennis L. Wade was the speaker for the event, which consisted of four separate ceremonies.

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men and Women's Bowling teams returned to action as they traveled to Erlanger, KY to participate in the second tournament of the weekend, the Norse Classic. The Patriots again saw action against some of the top talent of the Mid-South Conference (MSC) and were determined to show their best against rivals and Division I opponents.

UC Bowling Finishes Strong at Thomas Burris Memorial
The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men and Women's Bowling teams were back in action this past weekend as they had a full schedule of competition. The Patriots first stop was the Thomas Burris Memorial in Lexington, Kentucky, where they would participate against all the other bowling programs in the Mid-South Conference (MSC). This tournament would be a true testament to what UC's programs are made of and to see where they stand against rivals in the MSC.

Approximately 600 candidates for graduation were eligible to walk in Coastal Carolina University's fall 2015 commencement ceremonies. South Carolina state superintendent of education Molly M. Spearman advised the Class of 2015 not to forget their roots as they go forward in their lives and careers.

Patriot Bowling Strikes in Brunswick Southern Classic
The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men and Women's Bowling teams returned to action this past weekend in Atlanta, Georgia at the Brunswick Southern Collegiate Classic Tournament. The teams would compete in six match play games and 12 Baker games. Finishing out two days of tournament play, the men's team placed 18th out of 22 teams and the women placed 11th out of 18 teams.

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men and Women's Bowling teams returned to action this past weekend in Centerville, Ohio at the UPike Orange and Black Classic. The teams would compete in 5 team rounds and 16 Baker games. After the two day tournament, the men's team finished 11th out of 26 teams and the women's team finished 17th out of 26 teams.

Patriot Bowling Opens Season at Green River Classic
The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men and Women's Bowling teams opened their 2015-16 season this past weekend as they traveled to Campbellsville, KY for the 2015 Green River Classic. At this competition, the teams would compete by bowling 5 team rounds and 12 Baker games. With the Mid-South Conference (MSC) expanding this year, most of the teams that competed were members of the conference. The men's team would finish 4th of 13 competing teams while the women's team placed 5th of 12 teams.
